I read the first book in Jack Barrow’s Hidden Masters urban fantasy series, The Hidden Masters and the Unspeakable Evil: A Hard Drinking Occult Adventure with Gambling… and Frivolous Trousers (<==click/tap for my review), over a decade ago. It remains to this day one of the most bold, silly and absurd things I've ever read. And to be clear, I mean silly and absurd in the same vein the Monty Python crew quite often ventured boldly into the silly and absurd. So when I found out Jack was not only working on a long-awaited second book in the series but had written a prequelesque novella, Sundae Driver: A story of Dan and Stan, with Zelda and the Welder, to introduce readers to the Hidden Masters universe, I was pleased indeed. That Sundae Driver has a Halloween theme to boot? Well, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
