The Third Rail by Michael Harvey (PB Release)
Originally released in April of 2010, The Third Rail is the third book in author Michael Harvey’s series featuring Chicago Private Investigator Michael Kelly, and there is all kinds of trouble afoot in Chi-town.
Starting with an execution-style murder on an L (elevated train) platform that Kelly witnesses, followed by a second L related shooting across town barely an hour later, The Third Rail quickly pulls the reader into the sense of panic that sweeps through the city of Chicago as it realizes there is a spree killer on the loose.

Love detective stories. My one of my favorites is Ponzini’s Nameless Detective.
I really like Dr. Siri from Colin Cotterhill’s series set in Laos in the 1970’s. The setting is highly unusual, but mesmerizing and I give Mr. Cotterill high marks for bringing the people, setting and political situation to life. If you haven’t read them, I highly recommend them. I’ve always liked Hercule Poirot’s style, maybe because I read all the Christie books so he’s the one I’ve read the most about. Thank you for the chance to win this book.

Matthew Scudder, hands down. Though, as a newspaper guy, Gruley’s Gus Carpenter and Brad Parks’ Carter Ross are new favorites, too.

My favorite detective is Gus Carpenter from both “Starvation Lake” and the “Hanging Tree.”
He seems so believable. A very vulnerable and dear character.
His love for his mother shows through.
His passionate loyalty to his friends is so admirable.

I think it has to be John Corey (Nelson DeMille). Not only is the guy a kick ass hero, but he’s also a hilariously sarcastic S.O.B.
Okay, I’m years behind in my reading (which has a tendency to happen when you let it sit on the back burner for 12 years), so my pick for Private Investigator is Nick Heller. Yes, the dreamy Nick Heller is my pick for favorite P.I. ONLY because out of all the fictional characters I’ve fallen in love with, he’s the only one that has the potential for a long term with relationship. Regardless of how fickle I am, long term relationships are important to a girl like me.
As any fan of detective fiction, it’s difficult to choose just one, but I have to go with Inspector Salvo Montalbano from Andrea Camilleri’s series. Brash, brilliant, and a gourmand.
I am actually not familiar with that series, but “brash, brilliant, and a gourmand” sounds wonderful. I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for entering. 🙂
